Crowns
A crown, sometimes called a "cap", is a tooth-like covering placed over an existing tooth. It adds strength to the tooth helping to prevent fracture and maintain the tooth long term. A crown is commonly recommended for the following:
- Broken and chipped teeth
- Teeth with large fillings
- Root canal treated teeth
- Teeth with significant loss of structure due to decay
A crown can usually be completed in two appointments. During the first appointment, your tooth is trimmed and prepared for the crown. A mould is made of the tooth and is sent to a dental laboratory where the crown is fabricated. A temporary crown is placed in the meantime. During the second appointment, the permanent crown is cemented into place.
